“Electromagnetic pollution may be the most significant form of pollution human activity has produced in this century, all the more dangerous because it is invisible and insensible.”- Dr.Andrew Weil, M.D.
The BioInitiative 2012 Report has been prepared by 29 authors from ten countries, ten holding medical degrees (MDs), 21 PhDs, and three MsC, MA or MPHs. Among the authors are three former presidents of the Bioelectromagnetics Society, and five full members of BEMS.
The report examines more than 1800 studies on the potential health effects of prolonged exposure to EMR that indicate DNA damage, leukemia, brain tumor, cancers, infertility and decreased sperm motility, blood-brain barrier disruption, abnormal gene transcription, genotoxicity, proteins stress, chromatin condensation and loss of DNA repair capacity in human stem cells, free radicals increase, reduced melatonin production, neurotoxicity in humans and animals, effects on the fetus, cognitive impairment, and findings in autism spectrum disorders consistent with EMF/RF exposure. This is only a snapshot of the evidence presented in the BioInitiative 2012 updated report.
As of March 15, 2018, 237 EMF scientists from 41 nations have signed the appeal urgently calling upon the United Nations and its sub-organizations, the WHO and UNEP, and all U.N. Member States, for greater health protection on EMF exposure.
The currently adopted safety standards really only considers non-ionizing radiation levels that can cause (thermal) tissue heating effects. However there have been many thousands of studies in the scientific literature, published, with each of these showing the existence of one of more non-thermal EMF effects. Therefore, current safety guidelines are inadequate because they do not take these non-thermal effects into consideration.
“We are scientists engaged in the study of biological and health effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic fields (EMF). Based upon peer-reviewed, published research, we have serious concerns regarding the ubiquitous and increasing exposure to EMF generated by electric and wireless devices. These include–but are not limited to–radiofrequency radiation (RFR) emitting devices, such as cellular and cordless phones and their base stations, Wi-Fi, broadcast antennas, smart meters, and baby monitors as well as electric devices and infra-structures used in the delivery of electricity that generate extremely-low frequency electromagnetic field (ELF EMF)”
A number of individuals have reported a variety of health problems that is an allergic-like reaction to EMR exposure called Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS). Some medical doctors and scientists estimate that 20-25 percent of the industrialized countries population experience the effects of EMR to some degree. Some of the reported symptoms are: a tingling or vibration like feeling where you normally keep your cell phone, skin irritations, heart arrhythmia, headaches, dizziness, nausea, difficulty concentrating or memory loss, lack of focus or mental clarity, sleep disturbance, fatigue syndrome, irritability and depression.
